Over a year ago, I got married. We worked really hard on the aesthetics that went into the event and I never shared it. We are both highly creative so it felt important to us to channel that energy into an experience that was uniquely “us” while also considering how our loved ones would feel as they entered into the space of our wedding. After all, it wasn’t just about us. Everyone in our lives helped us reach that moment. We wanted to honor and thank them.
To begin with, I designed a pattern and chose a font (Circular) that we both loved and those pieces became the identifying visual language for our day. They made appearances on our website and registry all the way to signage, place cards, and the photo backdrop I painted by hand for the day of. We tried to go green where we could so we sent out invitations via email, collected RSVPs on our website, used compostable bowls and spoons for dessert, supported local Tacoma and Seattle businesses, and gave a practical gift as a party favor—a custom hand towel.

I commissioned a portrait of us from my twin sister. In love with it.
It was vitally important to me to tell our real story. When I was single and attended weddings, I only saw the perfect ending. I wanted to show everyone how imperfect our journey really was because in the end it’s not about us, it’s about God and his purposes for bringing us together for the rest of our lives. We wouldn’t have made it to the I-dos without that truth to hang onto. So I created a space to display our intimate journal entries and letters we wrote through our difficult years of dating. Here, the shapes from my pattern appear again.
